​Chinese President Xi Jinping's proposals at the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC, Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand have offered the direction to open a new chapter for Asia-Pacific cooperation.

 

From Thursday to Saturday, President Xi attended the first in-person APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting since 2018 during his first visit to Thailand as head of state. The APEC meeting came at a critical moment with the world in desperate need of economic recovery from the impact of an ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, rising inflation and geopolitical tensions. Home to 2 point 9 billion people, the 21 APEC economies account for about half of global trade and over 60 percent of the world's total gross domestic product. The region's stability and growth are crucial for global development.
