24/11/2022  Chinese UN Envoy Calls For Resumption of Ceasefire in Yemen

International

China's permanent representative to the United Nations Zhang Jun called for a resumption of the ceasefire agreement in Yemen after reports of a drone attack at an oil port the previous day. In a briefing to the UN Security Council, Hans Grundberg, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, said the attacks by the Houthi militia risk triggering a military escalation and could worsen an already grim humanitarian situation.

Zhang stressed that Yemen is facing one of the world's gravest humanitarian crises, with more than 23 million people in urgent need of assistance, and urged all parties to cease their hostilities. The official said a bomb-laden Houthi drone targeted the oil port of Dhabah but caused no casualties or property damage because the government forces have already beefed up the defense of the port after previous drone attacks. The Houthi side has yet to comment on the incident.
