ASEAN is now facing increasingly complex and acute disaster risks influenced by climate change. Recent events are a reminder that hazards are now more extreme, unpredictable and interconnected. The Permanent Secretary for Security and Welfare at the Ministry of Home Affairs in his speech at the opening of the ASEAN Cross-Sectoral Workshop on Enhancing Weather and Climate Information for Disaster Management stressed that in such an environment, the ability to translate weather and climate information into timely and actionable decisions is no longer an option, but a necessity.

Dubious Halal Status


The Halal Food Control Division, Syariah Affairs Department received a complaint regarding the sale of the Natural Chicken Stock Concentrate food product produced by The Natural Stock Company Australia in one of the supermarkets in the country of which the halal status is doubtful. Following the complaint, an inspection was carried out and it was found that the product contained ingredients sourced from chicken meat whose source and halal status could not be ascertained since there is no halal recognition from a recognised halal certification body.
