​​The public are reminded not to make too many electrical connections that can cause a fire or turn off unnecessary electricity if leaving the house or building as well as to have and keep a fire extinguisher in the house and know how to use it. The public are also advised to keep an eye on children from playing with fire, do not leave cooking unattended or turn off the gas if not needed.  The warning was issued by the Fire and Rescue Department following 828 fire calls involving houses, buildings, forests and bush recorded in all four districts from January to 31 of March 2024. Based on the statistics shared by the Fire and Rescue Department, among the causes of house and building fires are excessive use of electricity, short circuits, loose electrical equipment connections, wildfires, abandoned cooking, forest and bush fires, and leaking or loose gas hose lines.
